If there is one thing that defines the Boca Grande experience, it is the golf cart. On this 7-mile barrier island, the golf cart is not a novelty — it is the primary mode of transportation, the social vehicle of choice, and the best possible way to experience everything the island has to offer. Families load up their carts with beach chairs and coolers. Couples cruise the historic downtown at dusk. Anglers use them to reach the state park before dawn. Here is everything you need to know to make the most of your golf cart rental on Gasparilla Island.
Why Golf Carts Are the Best Way to See Boca Grande
Gasparilla Island is small enough to explore entirely by golf cart in a single day — but large enough that you'd miss a great deal on foot. The island stretches roughly 7 miles from the causeway to the lighthouse at the southern tip, and the best spots are spread across its length. A golf cart gives you the freedom to stop wherever you like, load up with gear, and cover the whole island at a pace that lets you actually notice things. The island's streets are golf-cart-friendly by design, with dedicated cart paths in many areas and a culture that accommodates slow, exploratory driving.
The Essential Boca Grande Golf Cart Route
Start at our shop at 333 Park Ave in the historic downtown and head south on Park Avenue. This is the main commercial street of Boca Grande, lined with boutique shops, restaurants, and the iconic Pink Elephant bar at The Gasparilla Inn. Continue south past the inn and onto the Gulf-side path, which runs along the beach toward the state park. Stop at any of the beach access points for a swim or a walk. Continue to the southern tip and the Boca Grande Lighthouse — the most photographed spot on the island. On the return trip, take the bay-side route for a completely different perspective.

Golf Cart Rules on Gasparilla Island
Golf carts are permitted on all public roads on Gasparilla Island with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less. The speed limit for golf carts is 25 mph. All operators must have a valid driver's license. Carts must be equipped with lights for nighttime use — our Club Car Onward carts come fully equipped. Gasparilla Island State Park has a dedicated golf cart parking area near the lighthouse.
Local Tip: The state park charges a per-person entry fee ($3 for pedestrians/cyclists/cart riders). Have cash or a card ready at the entrance booth. The lighthouse grounds are worth every penny.
Our Fleet: Club Car Onward
Gasparilla Adventures operates a fleet of late-model, lifted Club Car Onward golf carts — widely regarded as the finest golf carts available. Available in 4-passenger and 6-passenger configurations, the Onward features a smooth AC electric motor, a lifted suspension for comfortable island driving, premium seating, and a full lighting package. These are not the beat-up rental carts you find at lesser operations — they are genuinely premium vehicles that reflect the standard of service we hold ourselves to.
